The very first bad impression on this Tamron lens is, the ZOOM ring is kind a hard to zoom in. It seems like stuck when you are reaching 100mm+- zoom range. You got to spin it harder on the zoom ring to make it zoom in. After awhile I find that, it is easier to zoom in but you point your camera down. and is easier to zoom out when you are point your camera upward. Which make me feel the camera is kind a lousy. This is the first thing that differentiate a Tamron with canon L lenses.
Nonetheless, I will try to use this Tamron lens as walk around lens for a few months and try taking some photo and see what is the outcome. The most significant advantage for this lens is the 15x zoom, which you can take wide angle to telephoto zoom. Due to this, the lens sacrifice some of the image quality. Because of the short focusing distance, this lens can create some bokeh easily even with 50mm+. Because of this capability, It also claim itself is a Macro lens, but the magnification doesn't seems to be that Macro as it seems to be.
Another thing I like about this lens is the tamron lens cap. It allows you to squeeze the center part to attach and detach the cap.
This lens don't perform too well under low light because of the aperture settings. But using some higher ISO and also VC feature, it still can capture some usable image at lower zoom range at night. In day light this lens works very well, and focus fast, and also control flare very well. Without PZD motor, it is a bit noisy while focusing.
With a lens that cost only RM 1600. and also all in one general zoom, what else can you expect from this lens? Overall if you just need something general with telephoto zoom you should get one and test it out. If you already get used to F/2.8 or F/4 L lens, this might be a pain in ass for you to use, especially on the aperture settings. Basically I am lazy people who like to zoom in and out. So I will try to take some photo with this lens for the time being until I get another lens few months later.
